Over the summer I made a goal to change my pedagogy. I needed to change the "norms" of what I have always done. I've always been somewhat tech savvy - SmartBoards, iPads, laptops etc. But I wasn't exactly sure on how to best incorporate them into my practice. They were there, I was using them, but not getting the most out of the devices or my students. I knew something had to change. I had to change.
Here is where my Personal Learning Network (PLN) comes in. I have always had a wonderful face to face PLN. From co-workers, to friends, to teachers/principals who work and live around me. I cannot understate how important these people are to bettering ones practice. Then there is my online PLN.
I am addicted! I have two young boys, a third child due in early April, yet I can't stop joining education chats. I can't stop collaborating with other educators who want to change, share, direct, learn from one another. How refreshing! A place where nobody stands still! My time with my online PLN has made me a more complete educator. It has allowed me develop into an educator who wants nothing more than to keep learning, developing and sharing.
So what has my F2F and online PLN done for me? Well...genius hour, Global Read Aloud, blogging, Edmodo, Weebly e-portfolios, Twitter, co-creator of #7thchat, connecting via Skype, Appear-in, Google Hangout, BYOD, etc... But what has it really done for me? It has allowed me to create a classroom full of student autonomy and trust. A classroom pushing the boundaries, removing the walls and being ENGAGED!
To my PLN..................... THANK YOU!
