A Few Weeks In

What a hectic, chaotic and simply wonderful first few weeks of the school year. Our room has been a buzz of firsts. From creating our own websites, to chatting with buddies on Twitter and Edmodo. From getting the ground work done to begin Genius Hour, to Mystery Skyping with a class from Louisiana and setting up two more for this week. Not to mention all those other responsibilities that go along with being the only grade 7 class.  Like I said, busy yet wonderful!

At the end of every day I allow my students to tweet about the day. To share anything they wish with the world. A student of mine, Emily, wrote something eye-opening and reassuring: "started our webpages. We had fun, making it our own, being creative, and being trusted." A quote that sums up everything a classroom should offer, creativity, engagement, trust, while giving students a window to learn their way (the right way). 

A goal I set this year was being able to engage my students with authentic learning opportunities. To have students not just want to come to class but to enjoy it so much that they can't stop talking about it at home or on the playground! The funny thing is I can't stop talking about it! Here's to hoping that the next three weeks can live up to the first three! I have a feeling it easily will!
